How many people genuinely have the opportunity to meet perfumers?
Amorettam had the distinct honour of participating in this year’s Geelong Regional Library Fragrance Fair on March 22. It was a privilege to be in the company of several independent perfumers from Australia, along with artisanal and niche fragrance brands, as well as vendors offering scented wellness products.
The historical application of aromatic substances to elicit specific responses through the sense of smell is a vital component of many cultures and life practices. These uses encompass anointing with fragrance oils, embalming, and various medicinal and cultural rituals.
When the olfactory system detects a scent, it sends signals to the limbic system, which subsequently triggers an emotional response based on our past experiences and associations with that particular fragrance.
Fragrance serves as a powerful and enjoyable tool for enhancing our emotional well-being, whether for relaxation, invigoration, or simply adding a touch of luxury to our everyday lives.
Certain natural scents, such as pine, eucalyptus, and lavender, can stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, fostering relaxation and alleviating stress and anxiety. In contrast, uplifting citrus scents like lime, lemon, and orange can enhance mood and increase energy levels.
Memories linked to odors are recognized as the most potent triggers of past emotions. Research indicates that smell-related memories tend to evoke more positive feelings than those associated with any other sense. Pleasant memories can elevate an individual’s mood, and a positive mood can, in turn, reduce stress.
For those who have lost a loved one, the scent of their perfume, cologne, or even a specific belonging can evoke treasured memories and a sense of their presence, even in their absence.
Although we were not an independent perfumer at the Fair, the response to Amorettam products was overwhelmingly positive. Our Wattleseed body cream presents an enticing blend of honey, milk, and chocolate in its top and middle notes, rounded off with base notes of vanilla and caramel—so delightful that one might be tempted to taste it, don’t you think?
Our Desert Lime body cream was particularly popular, with the delight evident on people’s faces, reflecting the invigorating and bubbly essence of this aromatic cream. It features top and middle notes of lime and coconut, complemented by base notes of musk, vanilla, and caramel.
